DWA
The DWA Regional Association Saxony/Thuringia promotes exchange between experts, organises further training and supports the development of technical standards. As a project partner, the association is responsible for key tasks in the areas of networking as well as training specialists from both Germany and the Czech Republic.
Dipl.-Hydrol. Katrin Hänsel
After studying hydrology at the Technical University of Dresden with a stay abroad at NTNU Trondheim, she initially worked as a research assistant in polar research. This was followed by several years of family life with professional work in the emergency services. She then worked in the field of cross-border flood protection and risk management. Since 2019, she has been head of the regional association Sachsen/Thüringen e.V. (DWA). In this role, she is responsible for the strategic management of the regional association, the organisation of specialist events and networking with municipalities, universities, engineering firms, government agencies and companies.

Felix Dobritz
Felix Dobritz completed a master’s degree in Waste Management and Contaminated Sites at Dresden University of Technology. Prior to this, he completed a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies at the Open University in the United Kingdom. His professional background lies in the assessment and remediation of contaminated sites and the investigation of surface waters. As part of his scientific work, he was involved in the development of a floating research platform for water analysis. He gained international project experience in South and Southeast Asia, among other places, where he worked as an environmental consultant and project engineer.
He has been a project manager at the DWA in Dresden since summer 2025 and is responsible for coordinating sewer and sewage treatment plant neighbourhoods. His responsibilities include organising specialist events and developing and implementing technical and educational projects in the field of water management.
As part of the project, the DWA and their Czech counterpart (CzWA) is responsible for setting up a database of regional water and wastewater associations, utilities, supervisory authorities and regional point sources with the aim of creating joint networks in the border region.
In addition, the team is responsible for developing modular training and continuing education programmes for specialists, as well as for planning, organising and implementing joint events, including sewage treatment plant operator networking events.
